Cube 2

Debian’s
cube2
source with our patches: its package.

Technical notes

Debian’s
cube2
(
0.0.20201229+dfsg-1+ps3.N
, packages/cube2) is Sauerbraten’s own
engine source (svn at the 2020-12-29 release, minus the bundled enet and the IDE files; the release
archive’s
src/
differs from it in two files,
sound.cpp
and
stream.cpp
, where Debian’s has later
upstream fixes). Only Debian’s data,
cube2-data
, is BananaBread’s. So one engine build with one set of
patches runs both BananaBread and
Sauerbraten, and Red Eclipse
is the same engine family without our patches. The package replaces Debian’s; the release candidate is
ps3.354, ps3.442~dev added 0011.

DarkPlaces

Debian buster’s DarkPlaces 0<del>20180412</del>beta1 (the last with the GL 1.x/2.0 renderpaths) as
darkplaces-gl2
: its package.

Technical notes

Debian’s DarkPlaces (0<del>20180908 and the 2026 git snapshot) has only GL 3.2 core and GLES2 renderpaths, so it
can’t run on the RSX. The last snapshot with the GL 1.1/1.3/2.0 renderpaths (
RENDERPATH_GL11/GL13/GL20
, an
SDL2 window,
vid_gl20 0
for the combiner path) is 0</del>20180412~beta1, Debian buster’s orig tarball
(snapshot.debian.org, upstream.mk). Our
darkplaces-gl2
(its package,
TYPE=upstream
,

make darkplaces-gl2-deb
, 2 MB) builds it with Debian’s 13 patches (link options, no SSE rasterizer off x86,
GPU skinning off) and
-std=gnu17
(the code uses
false
/
true
as enum names; gcc 15 defaults to C23). It
installs
/usr/games/darkplaces-gl2
beside Debian’s engine and
/usr/games/nexuiz-gl2
. The one game on it is
Nexuiz Classic; built, not yet installed on the PS3.

Debian’s
ioquake3
source with our patches: its package.

Technical notes

Our build of Debian’s
ioquake3
(
1.36+u20260719.58839361+dfsg-1+ps3.N
,
packages/ioquake3) replaces Debian’s and carries 30 patches (there is no 0017).
OpenArena runs on it (its notes), and Quake III Arena with the
player’s own data (its notes). Every change sits
behind a cvar, so a recipe variant can turn it back to upstream’s behaviour. The PS3 runs ps3.959~dev (0031) since
2026-10-28; the release candidate is ps3.396 (the archived release plan).

ScummVM

Debian’s
scummvm
, unpatched. It runs each of these games from its original data: the free ones from
Debian’s packages, the others from your own copy, which Walnut Games makes into a package. Every game
has its own menu entry that starts it directly, fullscreen, with the pad as the mouse; ScummVM’s own
launcher stays in the menu for everything else.

Technical notes

Debian’s
scummvm
, unpatched (2026.4.0+dfsg-1 on the PS3 in the smoke runs of 2026-10-29; 2026.1.0 before).
The licence is GPL-3.0-or-later: the sources’ headers since ScummVM 2.7 (Debian’s copyright file still
says GPL-2+ for most files). Each game it runs is a GameDB entry of its own (the user, 2026-10-30: “we
don’t rate engines, we rate games”); the old
scummvm
bundle is a draft that keeps ScummVM’s own
launcher and the smoke-test recipe.
